WWII Clothing Ration Card

Clothing rations during WWII were gazetted by the Australian Government on 12 June 1942. Each adult was entitled to 112 coupons per year and each year they received a new ation book. Rationing for clothing ceased in 1948. The Ration Card issued to Sam Drummond was for 40 coupons for "Special Clothing" . THe shopkeper would cut off the requisite number of coupons from a ration card. The Government's rationing on clothing affected The King's School Uniform as it was forbidden to have the red cuffs and braid on the jacket. This was very unpopular with the boys, many of them preferring to wear a jacket that was far too small than wear one without the cuffs and braid. (KSM Sept 1942 p22 p24)
