Portrait Photograph, hand coloured of Thuillier Lake Cardew (TKS 1903-05) reverse: "Boy" Private Thuillier Lake Cardew 54th Battalion 14th Infantry Brigade 5th Australian Division Son of John Hayden Cardew of St Enuie Wahroonga. Enlisted June 1915 Sydney in 9th Reinforcements, 2nd Battallion, 1st Australian Infantry Brigade 1st Australian Division. He was killed in action in the early morning July 20th 1916 when holding a support trench behind enemy lines at Fleurbaix Fromelles. He was cut off and surrounded by Bavarian ... but fought to the last. He was the Lewis Gunner of his battalion and was shot by a sniper when trying to drive back the enemy from his ....by ... attack. He was aged 25 years.
