Manning Medals 1

1914-1918 British War Medal awarded to GO Manning, instituted in July 1919, is a campaign medal awarded to persons who fought during World War I either in British or Imperial Forces. Obverse shows profile of King George V facing left designed by Sir Bertram McKennal with text "GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:" (George V, King of all the British Isles and Emperor of India) Reverse shows St George naked on horseback, the horse trampling on the shield of Prussia. In the background are waves and the dawn breaking for victory. The dates 1914 and 1918 appear on the left and right respectively of the design. Reverse was designed by William McMillan.
