Observation Balloon Roisel
Roisel is a small town about 11 kms east of Peronne and about 135kms inland
Observation balloons were used during World War I to spot troop movements, map trench lines and direct artillery fire. The observers could see up to 64 kms from the basket below the balloon. They were however easy targets to down especially by planes.
