Model 1898/09 105mm field howitzer, the 09 represents a remodel of the original design in 1909, with better sights and recoil buffers Heavy German Guns captured by Canadians and Australians 8 August 1918

The Germans called the 8th August “Der Schwarzer Tag” ( The Black Day) as the Australian and Canadian attacked along the Western Front around Villers- Bretonnoux. The day is captured by Charles Bean, Australia’s Official War Historian in great detail in Chapter IV Vol VI of The Official History of Australia in the Great War.
