Bunuba Muwaji (Bunuba Country)

Charlie Hatton

2024 | Documented Forms

As a proud Bunuba man, my sculpture is a tribute to my heritage and country, the land of the Kimberley in Northern Western Australia. The piece reflects my deep connection to the rivers of the region and incorporates elements that are central to my culture: the barramundi as my totem, and mangroves, which signify the intertidal wetlands of my homeland. The inclusion of shells and oyster shells pays homage to the rich natural resources of the area. Creating this sculpture was both a creative journey and a profound learning experience, deepening my understanding of my culture and environment.
